Carve out space for yourself, in the midst of this beautiful and strange
spring of reopening.
Join me and Alex Muck of Fun is a Necessity, LLC for a 90 minute Gateless Writing mini-retreat! Let this be a mid-month gift to yourself - a respite place to consider what you may have dreamed up, or feared to dream as the days have been getting longer and warmer.
Let it be whatever time and space you need.
You do not need to think of yourself as a writer. You just need a willingness to show up, an internet connection, and a way to record your words. That's it. No pressure. No worries. Nothing needs to turn out impressive, perfect, or even good. Alex will be there to guide and hold the container, and your fellow writers will be there to support and uplift you along the way.
Gateless is a writing practice developed by studying the science of creativity, and it is founded on the firm belief and well-studied fact that supportive feedback, feedback that highlights strengths and successes in relationships, in work, and yes, in writing, is incredibly beneficial in strengthening creativity and confidence, and helping us develop courage and resilience.
Gateless Writing Salons can take many forms, but this is approximate format we'll use:
-We’ll gather on a group video call.
-We’ll drop in with a reiki-based meditation offered by Michaela Daystar.
-I’ll offer a prompt or two. You can write whatever genre you wish - fiction, poetry, memoir, marketing copy, networking emails you've been putting off (I have literally done this as a salon participant before; it's a real option!)
-We’ll write in bursts, just long enough to get our creative juices flowing, and leave us excited to create more!
-We’ll read aloud, if we choose to.
-And we'll offer supportive, strengths-based feedback to each other, gaining inspiration and encouragement in the process.
Some beautiful things about Gateless:
You will only be told what is strong and powerful in your work. (If you're used to "constructive" criticism, this may be a wild new experience. It may feel "too soft" or like you are going to receive undeserved flattery. What is it like to sit with the idea that there is a spark of beauty in everything you create, and that others might be willing and able to find it? Imagine how creative you can be when your word are heard with grace, and met with gentleness!)
You will not be asked questions about your work. You will not be offered suggestions about your work. It will be allowed to stand on its own, in its own strength and power, magnificently enough, with no pressure to be more or different than it is.
Your work will not be assumed to be autobiographical (in feedback, we'll say "the narrator" or "the writer," not "you.") If you have some truths to speak that feel intimidating if they're attributed to you, this might be the space to put them into words, and maybe speak them aloud, knowing that the reaction you will receive will be one that honors the strength and power in whatever you bring forth.
Grab a journal, a cup of tea, and a favorite snack, and hop onto our call for a marvelous time full of gorgeous words among friends.
